Manic Monday - Welcome to Everyday Tarot and Waffle

Published by chameleonsdream under Randomness Edit This

Two of Pentacles, Colman Smith TarotThis week’s Manic Monday meme is Waffle, which makes it the ideal starting point for this blog about the Tarot. You see, I’ve been waffling about writing the Everyday Tarot blog since at least 2005 when I wrote this article, Tarot for Everyday Life, over at Associated Content. My intent then was to write a series of articles about the Tarot, building on my experience reading and interacting with the Tarot for the past 38 years.

But then… I waffled. Did I really know enough about the Tarot to dare teach others? Can I come up with something interesting to post about the Tarot every day? Do I have something new to add to the conversation about Tarot - something that hasn’t been said before in quite the same way that I can say it? So… I waffled.

And then… I started creating a deck of Tarot cards of my own - my third deck, none of them finished because, well - I get distracted, I wander off and do other things, I wonder what I might have to offer, I know my artwork isn’t good enough - yes, I waffle. I let myself be pulled in many directions and fail to exert the control needed to actually accomplish any of the things that I start.

A few weeks ago, I decided to take the option of starting another blog here at Today.com. I played with several ideas, but I kept coming back to the blog that I have been wanting to write since before I started my first blog - Everyday Tarot - Tools and Guidance for Living. And so… I did it. I applied for the blog and it was approved on February 12.

So - what have I been doing for the last 20 days? You guessed it - I have been dancing with the Two of Coins. I have been waffling. I decided that I couldn’t possibly start Everyday Tarot until I had it just the way that I wanted it. And that included a nifty little sidebar widget that would serve up a random Tarot card every time you load a page. But - I didn’t like the only Tarot widget I found. I decided to write my own.

It was the ideal reason for procrastinating. I would have to finish my Tarot deck, and write up all the interpretations before I could get started. I spent days waffling and playing with card images, refreshing my knowledge of Javascript, hunting down scripts that I could adapt to do what I wanted it to do. I was seeking perfection - but in reality, I was… you guessed it - waffling.

When I stumbled across the Manic Monday meme this morning, I knew that it was time to stop waffling. I reached for my Tarot deck and drew a random card, and it came up The Two of Coins.

The Two of Coins is the card of the Multi-Tasker - and it may as well be my totem. It gave me the nudge I needed to stop waffling and get started - because I know that I can balance and juggle at the same time.

Welcome to Everyday Tarot. Please bear with me while I hang the wallpaper and put on the finishing touches. Ignore the fact that the pretty little widget in the sidebar is displaying cards from the Colman-Smith Tarot. Eventually, I will display my own Tarot deck. Oh, and it will eventually have Interpretations for each card. And eventually, as I have the time to finish it, it will be a widget that you can grab and use at your own blog, complete with color customization.  In the meantime, please join me in talking about the Tarot.
